About

Diabetes Differently is a source of information and inspiration for anyone who wishes to change the course of their health and their life for the better.

This online collective was founded by Rich Kobelt, here’s his story from the Diabetes Differently Course:

I had been feeling more and more tired for a few years, and it got to the point where my vision would go blurry for a few hours, I felt cold all of the time, and I was eating literally bags of sugar every day just trying to keep my mood stable. I finally got up the courage to go to the doctor and tell him what was going on, and I was diagnosed with type II diabetes. I found out there was a long list of symptoms that read like a horror story, and I decided to ignore that and figure out what I needed to do to get better.

I immediately changed my diet, but I found every day to be a struggle, and I wasn’t getting better very fast… partly because I had lots of excuses for not exercising! Anyways, my doctor basically told me Western medicine couldn’t do much for me other than pump me up with pharmaceuticals, hold my hand, and hope for the best, so I started seeking alternative medicine.

I started by studying traditional Chinese medicine and receiving treatments regularly. After having some significant success with that, I moved on to researching how other ancient cultures dealt with diabetes, and guess what? They all have a way! I started gathering experts in health, wellness, and alternative medicine, and using myself as a guinea pig for all kinds of treatments.

Whether something was working or not, I had a tendency of giving up on it. This is where the psychological aspect came in; I found an uncommonly good therapist, and he shared some amazing tools with me and helped me implement the psychology that I have been studying formally and informally for 7 years. Part of it was realizing that I didn’t believe I deserved to get better… and that was the tip of the iceberg in terms of the amount of mental garbage I was subconsciously running that was keeping me sick. After that, I had enough mental tools to keep myself on track.

I went back to the ancient ways, and was refreshed by how well they work and their long track record. After using the best of what I found for about 6 months, with the mental tools, combined with a good diet, I could eat garbage every once and a while and not worry about my blood sugar or getting a splitting headache. After a year, I was cured. If I had been more consistent, I could have done it much faster.

I started talking with people about diabetes, and realized that many people didn’t know where to get the information that I had found, and if they did, they didn’t have the mental tools to use it in a way that worked for them. I realized that this information has value, that no one was sharing it in a concise form, and that’s how this program, Diabetes Differently, began.
